Almost forgot...

As a frame of reference we live across the street from a detention basin. It's one of the things we like about our house- no one living directly across from us. Unfortunately, it also means that all the neighborhood teenagers hang out there at all hours. Most of the time it's just yelling late at night. We've found a few beer cans, some things in our yard, nothing serious.

But the week of July 4th, we were in the house, getting ready to go out and do yard work. Brian called me upstairs to see the smoke blowing in from a fire that some kids had started. So being the overly patient neighbor that I am, I called the police. Yes, I am that person. I can deal with a lot, but a fire- c'mon. That's the stuff 5 o'clock news is made of: Some stupid neighbor going "Well, I saw a fire, but it was just a little fire." Meanwhile, half the neigborhood is in flames...

We headed outside to do the yard work and keep an eye on things. Twenty minutes later (after the fire is out and the kids are now throwing rocks at each other) Barney Fife shows up. He talks to the kids who then disperse. Then he decides it would be a great idea to come talk to us. Why not just paint a giant bullseye on our house!! Anyway, the kids told him that they were just lighting sparklers. And he believed them. Welcome to Cranberry Township!

So if I write in the very near future that we have been egged, TP'd, or worse, we'll know why...
